Conductive Hearing Loss

The failure in efficient conduction of the sound waves through tympanic membrane, outer ear or the middle ear is known as conductive hearing loss. The conductive hearing loss can occur alone or in conjunction with the other type of hearing loss called the sensorineural hearing loss. The conductive hearing loss can occur due to many reasons, some of these causes of occurrence of conductive hearing loss are:

• The most common cause of the conductive hearing loss can be the ear wax or the Cerumen. This can cause a blockage in the ear near the ear drum causing hear loss.
• The other cause of conductive hearing loss in the external ear is the tumor in the canal of the ear
• In the external ear one uncommon cause of hearing loss can be Exostosis; this is the situation when there is a formation of a new bone over the surface of any particular bone in the ear. This can cause blockage and can cause hearing loss.
• Conductive hearing loss can also happen due to the inflammation of the ear canal and the outer ear. This term is referred to as Otitis externa this condition is often called as the ear ache.
• The presence of any unexpected foreign body in the external auditory also causes conductive hearing loss.
• A hole or rupture in the ear drum may also cause an infection that can also cause conductive hearing loss. This can occur due to an accident or a sudden jerk thus causing this hole.
• An unexpected expanding of the sac in middle ear or mastoid is termed as Cholesteatoma. This condition can cause the ear sac to burst thus causing hearing disorder.
• There are few other reasons for conductive hearing loss like a tumor in the middle ear can also cause this disorder. A degenerative temporal bone can also cause this type of hearing disorder.

Conductive hearing loss differs from other types of hearing loss like the sensorineural hearing loss, this shown by a few types of test that are also performed by the doctor. Taking proper precautions and going for proper checkup is the key to stay away from such disorders. Proper precautions and maintaining a low noise atmosphere can also help in curbing these types of disorders. Getting proper hearing aids work best as a coping up measure for such type of disorders.
